Using this Wiki

A Sikkimonline wiki is a special type of section of this website that allows visitors to edit and expand the wealth of its content. But it is much more than that, it is a way to work together to build knowledge, things and connections. A fundamental value of wiki is People, People, Technology, People.

Contributing & participating

Perhaps this should be first on the list, as the surest way for the Wiki to grow is for each of us to contribute to this Wiki - and to invite friends and colleagues - including those who have not yet discovered the joys of Wiki work - to join in the process.

Three Basic Things

The basic idea is to make this Wiki a place for at least three things.

  1. Work together on writing a summary.
  2. Collaborate on writing commentaries and elaborating and refining the presentation.
  3. Demonstrate and discover what is valuable in a learning platform.

Use of Wiki Features

There are many different ways to participate in a Wiki space. Become familiar with the different types of Wiki pages and find those areas in which you are most comfortable participating.

Ease of reading

People do use sentences that are sometimes hard to understand, so it is advised to KIS (Keep it Simple) formula.

Long Paragraphs

Many of the paragraphs could reasonably be characterized as excessively long, and include weighty sentences with the result that there may well be a good number of prospective readers who find The Wealth of information somewhat difficult to digest in its original format.

Bulleted chapters

By providing distinctive paragraph breaks and double-spacing between sentences, and adding as many levels of outline bullets as suggest themselves, the presentation seems to be much easier to read. To insert a bullet, use an asterisk (*). Similar to indentation, more asterisks in front of a paragraph means more indentation.

Numbered items

You can also create numbered lists. For this, use the number sign or octothorpe (#). This is usually used for polls and voting. Again, you can affect the indent of the number by the number of #'s you use. Example:
# First item
# Second item
## Sub-item under second item
# Third item
Shows up as:

      1. First item
      2. Second item
            1. Sub-item under second item
      3. Third item

Keep in mind

Any article that simply defines a word, or short phrase, as you would find in a typical dictionary, and that can not be expanded into an encyclopedic entry, should be contributed to the wiki project.

Copyrights

Do not submit copyrighted material without permission. When adding information to articles, make sure it is written in your own words. Remember that all information found on the Internet is copyrighted unless the website specifically states otherwise.

Public domain

A work which is not copyrighted is in the public domain, and may be freely copied by anyone.

Who is responsible for the articles on Wiki?

You are! Truthfully, you can even edit this very FAQ, so long as each edit is helpful. This is a collaborative effort. Every online can contribute information to different parts of this project, including you. All you need is to know how to edit a page, and have some encyclopedic knowledge you want to share.

How do you know if the information is correct?

As anyone can edit any article, it is of course possible for biased, out of date, or incorrect information to be posted. However, because there are many other people reading the articles and monitoring contributions using the Recent Changes page, incorrect information is usually corrected quickly.

Can I reuse Wiki content somewhere else?

This section of Sikkimonline is considered a Public Domain, that means you may reuse it under the terms of ANCSA "Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 India" license.
