The enchanting little Sikkim lies in the eastern Himalayas of India, stretched across 7096 sq km and inhabited by mainly three communities, the Lepcha, Bhutia and Nepali. Sikkim is classified into four districts East, West, North and South. Sikkim history is filled with mythical stories and politics.
Districts
- East District - The capital Gangtok is situated here, east district is the main administrative activity hub of Sikkim. Besides the usual shopping in Gangtok, East offers many interesting places to visit, such as Institute of Tibetology, Rumtek Monastery, Tsomgo Lake, Saramsa Garden Aritar and many other places.
- West District - The true place for adventure lovers, west district provides base for all trekkers that leads to the wilds of majestic Kanchendzonga. Places to visit : Pelling, Yuksum, Pemayantse Monastery, Goecha_la
- North District - North is the home of alpine scenery and many hot springs, during the spring time lush rhododendrons bloom in rich colors Gurudongmar Lake, Yumthang, Chungthang and many other places of interest are located here.
- South District - Some of the oldest monasteries of Sikim are located here, including 108ft high of Guru Padmashambhava. Namchi, Ravangla, Timi Tea Garden, Kewzing
Sikkim Political
It was Friday 16th May 1975 marked the fulfillment of quarter century long struggle of people of tiny Himalayan Kingdom to become master of their own affairs. It was the day when people of Sikkim put an end to three hundred year old monarchy and acquired statue of full democracy be joining the political, economic and social mainstream of Indian Union. until now there have been 5 Chief Ministers in Sikkim.
