The ritual dance is performed by the Lepchas of Sikkim, the dance had been inspired by the local legends, it is usually performed during the month of November. The dance is performed as the food offering worship of the seven immortal couples of "Meyel Kyong". The Lepchas believe that seeds of all kinds of agricultural and horticultural crops were bought from the seven immortal couples. They also believe that birds were sent to them from guiding them for sowing of seeds. To express their gratefulness they offer all kinds of food to the immortal couple of "Mayel-Kyong" during the festival. They sing and dance to celebrate this festival.
